President Moon - How I Would Remake America

“Welcome to America, land of opportunity for those at the top.” – Anonymous

The America I believe in is a place where no one is left behind. The amount of hatred and discrimination in this country is unbelievable. It is sad to see even brothers hate each other because they disagree on a law or presidential candidate. To see friends turn against each other because of a lost election is appalling. To see the rich keeping resources out of the hands of the poor people who need them the most is despicable. Well in my vision, all of this would be looked down upon.

I believe most, if not all, of the hatred in America is caused by the fact that was live in a Capitalist economy. If we put the means of production into the hands of the working class, instead of the hands of privately owned corporations, we would eliminate the competing classes. This would give everyone equal access to the necessary resources in order to survive. No one would have an upper hand against anyone else, therefore, eliminating the need to compete for resources. Thus, eliminating the need for hatred and competition for survival. The system would work for everyone, not just those at the top.

In my America, energy would be ecofriendly. Energy would come from solar, wind, water, geothermal, and biomass sources, instead of nuclear and fossil fuel sources. As long as the sun is burning, we will have solar energy. As long as the earth is spinning, we will have wind energy. As long as the moons gravity causes currents and regular wave patterns, we will always have a way of producing energy from the motion of the ocean. As long as the earth’s core is burning, we will have geothermal energy. As long as we produced biological waste, we will have biomass energy. All of these are infinite sources of energy, whereas, nuclear and fossil fuels are not. They are also ecofriendly because they don’t leave any harmful byproducts behind.

In my America, immigrants and refugees would be taken in with our arms wide open. This country has been made up of immigrants and refugees since its foundation, so it makes no sense to close our borders to them now. There would be a legal option for citizenship, in place, for all immigrants and refugees who choose, of their own free will, to become a citizen of the United States.

In my America, gun laws would be strictly enforced. We would be very careful to whom we sell firearms. We also wouldn’t sell assault weapons without a special permit given only to those individuals with the appropriate training. Mandatory background checks would be given to any and all persons wishing to buy a firearm.

In my America, freedom of person would be an unalienable right. To have freedom of person means that you have the right to express yourself in any civil way. It means to have the right to be yourself. You would have the right to dress how you choose in school, the work place, or public. No one can tell you how to express yourself or shut down your right to self expression.

In my America, medical care would be a given right, not something that you would have to gamble on. No hospital or clinic could deny or refuse service to anyone, for any reason, because of a lack of sufficient health insurance. Full coverage care would be provided to all residents and citizens at no cost to the consumer. The same goes for dental coverage. Full coverage dental care would be a given right for all residents and citizens.

In my America, public schooling, from Pre-Kindergarten to the completion of a Four Year College Degree, would be free to every resident and citizen. The point of this would be to give everyone an equal and fair shot at a comfortable life and a dream job.

At the end of the day, this is just my version of America. I truly believe all of the issues that I have mentioned here are true problems that the United States needs to address effectively and soon. These are just my ways of fixing them. Everyone is going to have a different opinion, so let me read your opinions in the comments.
